Costa Rica

Mission Costa Rica · Cartago & the Central American Peninsula

Part of our mandate at Legacy 728 is to carry the good news of Jesus Christ to the nations. Mission Costa Rica was established in 2016 as a base of operations in Costa Rica, with a vision to reach Central America and the Spanish-speaking world with the Gospel.

Travis & Paulina Reid

Travis and Paulina first met in the summer of 2010 during a missions trip Travis took from Canada to Costa Rica. Serving with the Canadian Armed Forces at the time, he lost his heart to the nation over that week and began sensing a calling toward full-time church planting.

Their friendship deepened into a courtship. In February 2012 Travis resigned from the Armed Forces and moved to Costa Rica, where he and Paulina were married in March of that year. Over the next years they worked with a local church, ministered on the streets of Cartago, organized missions trips to Haiti, and eventually committed to a full year in Haiti running feeding programs, Bible classes, and evangelistic meetings.

It was during a Canadian fundraising trip that Travis was divinely reconnected with his former pastors Michael and Somerset Sitko — and Legacy 728 was born out of that meeting. Both Travis and Paulina have since graduated from Rhema Costa Rica. They now live in Cartago with their six daughters: Kiara, Ximena, Victoria, Danna, Abigail, and Isabela.

What we're doing

Church planting

Because of the difficult terrain and vast dispersal of nearly twenty thousand Cabecar indigenous people through the mountain jungles, we establish a network of smaller house churches rather than one centralized location, reducing travel distances and reaching more people with the Gospel.

Jungle Bible School

Students attend weekly church meetings plus two full days of classes per course. They receive solar-powered audio players preloaded with lessons, study a book on the subject, and complete an exam at the end, raising up a new generation of indigenous spiritual leaders.

Reaching the unreached

We make ongoing evangelistic trips deep into the jungle, using a small projector and speaker to show the Jesus film in the native Cabecar language. For many it is the first motion picture they have ever seen, and many have surrendered their lives to Christ after hearing the Gospel preached.

Iglesia Palabra con Fuego

"Church of the Word with Fire" — Cartago, Costa Rica

In 2024 Travis and Paulina secured a facility in Cartago to house their growing church family. Over the past two years the space has been transformed into a vibrant ministry hub — hosting five meetings per week including prayer gatherings, discipleship tracks, ministry development, youth services, and Sunday worship.

The facility is also being developed to accommodate visiting missions teams as they reach out to the surrounding Cartago region.
